FirstWorks presents Urban Bush Women – WALKING WITH ‘TRANE
Event Details
A towering jazz masterpiece comes alive onstage with unbridled energy, innovative choreography and live music
This electrifying, all-female, “unstoppable force in American dance” salutes John Coltrane’s "A Love Supreme". Grammy Award-winning pianist/composer George Caldwell, one of modern jazz’s current pre-eminent players, has created new music around the legacy of one of jazz music’s greatest innovators. For three decades Urban Bush Women’s powerful moves have shaken theaters and inspired communities celebrating the culture of the African diaspora. The evening promises to leave an indelible mark, as The Miami Herald-Sun exclaims, “They shimmied, shimmered, sparkled, strutted and stamped as though trying to put out a fire.”
Premium ticket includes the best seats, plus complimentary admission to your choice of a morning-after Jazz Brunch or a Feb. 24 studio performance of "dark swan".
Funded in part by DanceUSA/Doris Duke Foundation, Creative Arts Council of Brown University, RI Council for the Humanities.
